THE ENGLISH BULLDOG: The breed originated in Great Britain but today's dog is quite different than the one the breed was originally intended for....they were originally bred to hold bulls for butchers and then later used for blood sports & baiting...Not the best of starts for this breed. When the behavior was outlawed, the breed fell out of demand but there were some who adored the dog and made sure to nurture the breed along as a companion dog, placing value on its gentle temperment and looks. With alarge head and broad squarish shoulder set, this dog has great power and is a stable dog. he stands about 12 to 16" high. He does have a tendency toward snorting and drooling with his short nose & airway. This means he suffers from brachycephalic syndrome. They come in a variety of colors, have small round, dark eyes and generally good nature.
